Hooks / Starters

Pupils at Mary Astell Academy have been enjoying a variety of lesson starters during their English lessons and they have been loving ‘hubwords’. We have had class competitions to see which class can come up with the most amount of words from the word-wheel and 10.2 are the current champions!

KS3 pupils have been rushing to the front of the class to find as many ‘spot the difference’ mistakes, circling their finds with whiteboard markers.

We’re trying out different starter activities and engagement hooks during English lessons. Wordle is a huge hit! We have even progressed to ‘hard mode’ with a couple of classes!
