Positive relationships in school are central to the well-being of both students and teachers and underpin an effective learning environment. Here at Mary Astell Academy, we believe that positive relationships between staff and students is key to the success of the school.

Staff at Mary Astell Academy take time and make a conscious effort to create positive relationships with students and promote peer on peer friendships. Good relationships with staff and peers help students feel a greater sense of belonging and connection to the school community. When students feel that they are part of a community at school, they are more likely to engage with the learning that is being offered. That is why at Mary Astell Academy, all staff try to create positive relationships to improve learning throughout the academy, and staff make sure all students are listened to, feel safe and have a member of staff they feel they can trust when they need extra support.

In December, Mary Astell Academy had a visit from a therapy dog named Hudson. His visit enabled our pupils to interact with the dog to help with their mood and self-esteem, which in turn helps to improve their relationships with their peers and staff.
