The pupils in InReach show off their artistic prowess and begin designs for the exciting assignment of creating 3D Papier-mâché Viking helmets. In an effort to combine the students’ topics in Geography and History, pupils in InReach begin the study of Viking runes and symbols in art lessons to allow them to generate their very own Viking art.

The students began replicating the designs, either tracing or copying by hand and shading their copies. The study of these images set the pupils up to begin designing their own creations and generating their own Viking helmets, inspired by real Viking history and artwork. By the end of term students will have designed and made their own Viking helmets demonstrating a combination of skills in design, drawing, and modelling.

Mary Astell Academy demonstrates a strong value for the arts as well as academia, previous Art assignments have combined topics of Mindfulness, Photography, Sport, Global Landmarks as well as sticking closer to home with the North East. Through this, students learn to combine knowledge from subjects as they develop their artistic skills.

The first products of these Viking art lessons reflect artistic talent within the academy and show a very promising start to this assignment. We look forward to seeing what the students produce in their final 3D Viking creations and future Art topics.
