PSHE curriculum allows the pupils to gain a greater understanding of their own emotional wellbeing and build their own knowledge to help them be responsible young people in the school, with their family and within the wider community.

Pupils are encouraged to speak out, share their views and respect others opinions during PD lessons and in other areas of the curriculum.  The aim of the curriculum is to build confidence and raise self-esteem so they believe that they can achieve great things if they put their minds to it. By developing and strengthening resilience and self-discipline, they can become responsible young people who are ready for life beyond Mary Astell.

Imparting the knowledge and the skills to stay safe and healthy in today’s rapidly changing world is at the core of our curriculum. All pupils are taught how to make informed decisions with the main aim to keep themselves safe.

The curriculum covers a broad range of age-appropriate topics based on the three key areas of living in the wider world, health and wellbeing and relationships. These topics allow pupils to think about ‘what if…’ and to question their choices which will help them to manage their current and future opportunities, with all the challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up.

Curriculum delivery is supported with resources are used from Cre8tive Education which ensures that all topics are covered effectively, whilst recognising the risks and issues that our pupils experience today and focussing upon ways they can minimise potential harms.
